DeWanna Bonner and fellow WNBA star Alyssa Thomas have announced that they will be tying the knot. News surfaced Friday on social media regarding the couple’s engagement after Thomas posted a photo on social media showing her proposing.

Both play for the Connecticut Sun, who reposted the news, celebrating in the memorable occasion for the power couple. The duo have been together since 2021, shortly after Bonner joined the team after leaving the Phoenix Mercury after the 2019-20 season.

The pair are the second set of Connecticut Sun players to have gotten engaged in recent years. In the fall of 2021, Natisha Hiedeman and Jasmine Thomas, who were both with the team at the time, got engaged as well.

Recently, both Bonner and Thomas played in the WNBA All-Star game as part of Team A’Ja Wilson. However, it was Team Brianna Stewart who secured the win.

DeWanna Bonner has been in the WNBA since 2009, when she was drafted as the No. 5 pick. In her first year, she won a championship with the Phoenix Mercury, marking her first of three straight Sixth Woman of the Year awards. As she continued to develop her game, she averaged career highs in scoring and rebounding in 2012 with 20.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.

In 2014, Bonner won her second WNBA championship with the Phoenix Mercury, earning her plenty of recognition around the league. The following season, she earned All-Star honors for the first time, before then joining the Connecticut Sun for the 2019-20 season.

There, she met Alyssa Thomas, the No. 4 pick in the 2014 WNBA draft. Over the years, Thomas’ game has evolved. In fact, it wasn’t until the 2017 season that she first earned All-Star honors.

Since then, she has qualified for three more All-Star games, while also leading the league in steals during the 2020 season. That same year, she averaged a career-high 15.5 ppg to go along with 9.0 rpg. However, the following season she tore her Achilles tendon and played just three games.

Since then, she has bounced back, earning All-Star honors last season and this season.
