The SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) hosted the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for a match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in IPL 2023 on Saturday, May 13. It proved to be a thrilling game, where LSG defeated SRH by seven wickets.
Hyderabad captain Aiden Markram won the toss and decided to bat first on home soil. The Orange Army started well and were 115/3 at one stage, with a well-set Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen batting in the middle. It seemed like SRH would post a 200-run total on the board, but Krunal Pandya’s double strike turned the momentum in LSG’s favor.
LSG managed to keep SRH down to 182/6 in 20 overs. Captain Pandya emerged as the pick of the bowlers for the visitors with figures of 2/24 in four overs.
Chasing 183 for a victory against the SunRisers Hyderabad, the Super Giants got off to a slow start. Kyle Mayers departed to the dressing room after scoring only two runs off 14 balls. SRH seemed the favorites to win at that point.
However, uncapped player Prerak Mankad surprised the SunRisers bowlers with a fantastic knock of 64 runs from 45 balls. Nicholas Pooran supported him to perfection by scoring 44 runs off just 13 deliveries as Lucknow won the game by seven wickets with four balls to spare.
The IPL 2023 match between SRH and LSG drew a lot of attention from the fans. Here’s a look at the three moments from Match 58 of IPL 2023 that generated a buzz among the cricket universe members.
#1 A controversial no-ball call reversed by 3rd umpire
During the 19th over of SunRisers Hyderabad’s innings, Avesh Khan bowled a full toss to Abdul Samad. It seemed like a waist-high full-toss, which is why the on-field umpire adjudged it a no-ball. LSG went for a review.
The replays and the ball tracker suggested that the ball was indeed above Samad’s waist, but the third umpire reversed the decision made by the on-field umpire and labeled it a legal delivery.
This umpiring howler started a debate among fans on social media.
#2 Fans reportedly threw nuts and bolts in LSG’s dugout during IPL 2023 match in Hyderabad
The crowd at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium were disappointed with the third umpire’s decision. They reportedly started chanting Virat Kohli’s name against the Super Giants and then threw nuts and bolts from the stands near the LSG dugout.
This incident took place during the 19th over as well. The game was halted for a few minutes after the fourth delivery of the over. Heinrich Klaasen, who hit a four on the fourth ball, lost his concentration. He played a dot and got out on the last ball of the over.
#3 Abhishek Sharma bowled the most expensive over by an SRH bowler in IPL 2023
Aiden Markram raised a few eyebrows when he gave the 16th over of LSG’s innings to Abhishek Sharma. Lucknow needed 69 runs off 30 balls at that stage to complete a double over SRH in IPL 2023.
Youngster Abhishek could not execute his plans well and ended up leaking 31 runs off six balls. Marcus Stoinis hit him for two sixes before losing his wicket. Nicholas Pooran then arrived in the middle and whacked three sixes off three balls. Abhishek bowled a wide as well, as the momentum shifted in LSG’s favor.
